WV Women Owning Woodlands Tour
WV Women Owning Woodlands Field Tour
Pendleton County, WV (near Ft. Seybert)

WV Women Owning Woodlands is hosting a field tour of a property where a woman landowner partnered with women foresters and other natural resource professionals to:
Place the property under a conservation easement with WVLT
Implement a project to protect the riverbank and improve water quality
Develop Golden-winged Warbler habitat
Test different methods for starting several wildflower meadows
The day will also include a short hike to a pond in the forest. For participants interested in wading across the river, there will be an opportunity to view tree planting, invasive species removal, fencing, and the installation of a solar pump water trough.

Chainsaw Safety Workshop for Women
Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) will be hosting their 7th annual Chainsaw Safety Workshop. This year, they are offering a course for women who want to learn or improve on chainsaw skills!
This is a 2-day training that will be held at PCSWCD's Williamsburg Forest, Williamsburg, ME on Saturday September 27th and 28th from 9-3:30PM. This is a hands-on training, so all PPE - chaps, boots (steel toe recommended), gloves, head, ear and eye protection (forestry helmet) - are needed, along with a chainsaw. Topics covered will include PPE, saw maintenance, starting, safe operating, basic cuts, processing and more. There is no certification offered with this class. The goal is to have participants leave comfortable operating a chainsaw using safe techniques. This course is capped at 6 participants, so early registration is recommended.

Women Owning Woodlands Fall Field Trip
Join the Missouri Chapter of Women Owning Woodlands for a fun, educational weekend in the Ozarks!
We start the weekend on Friday with a tour of the L-A-D Foundation's Pioneer Forest, the largest privately owned and managed forest in Missouri.
We will be guided by Pioneer Forest ecologists and foresters as we visit an active timber sale, a timber stand improvement site, and a virgin pine forest.
Friday evening we will have a cook-out style dinner (and s'mores!) at Round Spring Campground.
Saturday morning we will hike the Cave Spring Loop trail at Devil's Well on the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, where we will practice tree identification and discuss land management along the way.

Women Foresters Collaborative Fall Gathering
The next Women Foresters Collaborative Gathering will be held September 13-14, 2025 at the AMC Cardigan Mountain Lodge in Alexandria, N.H.
Mount Cardigan rises out of the Shem Valley as a beacon for outdoor lovers. Next to the 5,000-acre Mount Cardigan State Forest, Cardigan Lodge is located on a 1,200-acre AMC reservation.
The gathering will start with an optional field trip at a special spot—Quincy Bog Natural Area in Rumney NH—with an overnight at the AMC’s Cardigan Lodge in Alexandria NH. Attendees will learn, share, and explore together with a special panel of special presenters, with plenty of free time for informal connection and fun. The gathering will start on the 13th at 11:30 AM “in the field” at the Quincy Bog in Rumney (or start the gathering at three o’clock at the Cardigan Lodge). Be sure to bring your own lunch and water for that field trip. Supper will be provided on the 13th and breakfast and lunch on the 14th.
Registration is $115. Sliding scale payment is available for students, early career professionals and anyone who needs it—no questions asked. The registration deadline is August 31st, 2025, or whenever full capacity is reached, whichever comes first. Space is limited so register early. Register Here!

Women and Their Woods Retreat
Learn about your woods from experts in ecology in a supportive environment. We’ll explore ecology, forest stewardship, preservation, landscaping with native plants & more. Other activities include forest walks, a campfire and mindfulness exercises.
Registration includes workshops, meals, and lodging. Early bird pricing of $185 available through July 13. Sliding-scale registrations are available for women experiencing financial hardship. Space is limited, first come, first served.

Women and Our Woods: Game of Logging Level I
Women Owning Woods Vermont is hosting Game of Logging Level I to help you develop chainsaw skills. This class is the first in the series and focuses on introducing the participant to open face felling and the development of techniques to safely use it. Topics covered include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, chainsaw reactive forces, bore cutting, pre-planning the fell, and understanding hinge wood strength. Each person in the class will cut down a tree. Participants must bring a safety helmet with a face shield, eye and ear protection, chaps, as well as lunch, water, and snacks for the day. If you do not have the appropriate equipment, please reach out to the us, as it should not stop you from attending. Bringing a chainsaw is recommended but not required.

Birds and Brunch at Pratt Refuge with Women and Our Woods

Are you curious about what bird sings out “teacher, teacher, teacher!” from the forest? Want to know which species sounds like it’s saying “pleased, pleased, pleased to meet cha!” If so, then this program is for you! Join Women and Our Woods-VT, Vermont Land Trust, Mad Birders, and Audubon Vermont for an inclusive, women-focused bird walk at the Vermont Land Trust’s Pratt Refuge in Duxbury. We’ll look and listen for forest birds on a leisurely walk through the woods and gain a better understanding of the habitat those species are keying in on. At the conclusion of the walk, we’ll convene at the Refuge’s cabin for a light brunch, beverages, and conversation.

Women and Our Woods: Beginner Chainsaw Use and Safety
Women Owning Woods Vermont invites you to learn to be safe with a chainsaw! This course is designed to introduce the safe handling of a chainsaw, as well as boost the confidence level of anyone who has very little or no experience with a saw. Topics covered: parts of a chainsaw, safety, bucking (cutting an already felled tree), and basic maintenance. Participants should bring a helmet with a face shield, eye and ear protection, or chaps if they have them. Otherwise, these will be provided during the class. Also bring lunch, water, and snacks for the day. This is a hands-on full-day course and is an excellent foundation for someone who may go on to attend the Game of Logging Levels 1 through 4 training. Class size is limited to 10.

Restoring Crooked Creek with Women and Our Woods

What is a healthy stream supposed to look like? Join Women and Our Woods Vermont and other women landowners, land managers and individuals interested in learning more about what constitutes a healthy stream and how we can restore stream function and processes to existing watersheds. VLT Ecologist Allaire Diamond and VLT Forester Caitlin Cusack will take us on a tour of the watershed restoration work in the Crooked Creek headwater drainage on the Button Farm in Colchester two and a half years after a dam has been removed. The work began in 2021 and includes instream wood addition, dam removal, wetland restoration, ‘Stage Zero’ stream restoration, plantings, and control of introduced weeds in the context of a working farm and rapidly developing community. Allaire and Caitlin will share details on each of the restoration activities, how they complement each other, and how private and public landowners can initiate this work on their own land.
